This morning in the church service, we took the Lord’s supper, but we did it slightly different than usual. Our pastor asked us to have a time of introspection as to what we need to confess to God and remembering what Christ did for us on the cross.

As I bowed my head to pray, deep within my spirit, I felt the Lord ask me if what he did was enough. And as I sat with that and really listened to the Holy Spirit, I realized that sometimes I act like what Jesus did isn’t enough. Because there’s always something else I’m grabbing for in this life on earth.

And while I am definitely a lot more content than I was two decades ago with my humble life, I still tend to grab for more. Maybe not more “things” but more.

The number of people in the world who don’t know where their next meal is going to come from, let alone where they’re going to lay their head at night is astronomical. And here in the United States – though we have probably millions that are like that as well -we still are one of the wealthiest countries in the world.

Yet everywhere you go there’s something to buy or that’s pulling you in to want more. I mean, we have “buy now” buttons on websites so that we don’t even have to think about it but just go on knee jerk reaction and emotion.

These are some of the struggles I’ve had in the past which I don’t have quite as much now with the craving for those things here on earth, but I do have things in my life that I sometimes crave more than Jesus. And that is saying that Jesus is not enough.

What it says, when I desire something more than Jesus is that his murder, horrific death, beatings, his amazing sacrifice is not enough to fulfill me.

That made me sad and I had to ask the Lord to forgive me for the times I feel like he’s not enough. Because I know deep down he is the only thing that satisfies me. He’s the only thing that gives me pure joy and peace and he is enough until I start letting the world tell me otherwise.

So I’m going to leave that with you this week and challenge you to ask this question…is Jesus enough for you?
