Knowing Jesus

For a video of how to know Jesus scroll to the bottom.

Knowing Jesus is not as hard as it sounds…let me tell you my story. I grew up in church and I got “baptized” at 12. I thought that made me a Christian, but as I continued to be involved in church I discovered I was not. There was a problem in me though as I was “pretending” to be a Christian and was worried what others might think if I said I really wasn’t. I was prideful and more worried about me than following Jesus. I needed to recognize my sin and my deep need for Him.

The first step to knowing Jesus is to recognize that you are a sinner and powerless over your own life.

We are all sinners and since heaven is a perfect place, not one bit of inperfection – sin – can enter. Not one of us can stand before God and say we lived a perfect life. At the time I was “pretending” to be a Christian I was tyring to live a perfect life here on earth on my own. I was working completely in my own strength. But I had to realize….

The next step to knowing Jesus is to recognize you are not able to save yourself from death.

I had to come to that point in my life when I was 17. I had to realize that no one on this earth – not even myself – could do enough to get me into heaven. It just is not possible. There is only one way to heaven and that is Jesus.

Know Jesus can save you because He was God, but also man and He walked this earth and then died for you.

One night, in the summer of June 1994, I was at a Christian camp and was brought to my knees in realization of my need for Jesus. There was just the sticking point of denying myself and what people might think when I decided to truly follow Him. I was at an impass and it was make it or break it time. I had to finally realize…

Jesus died, despite the fact His life was completely perfect. There was no earthly reason for Him to die, other than He loves all of us so much He died so we might have life.

By life, I mean your soul. You were born of a human onto this earth, but to enter heaven, and to follow Jesus, you must be born again. Born again, in that our sould is reborn. When we die, we will either go to heaven or hell. We will all stand before God as our judge.

The only way we can be allowed into heaven is if we have been completely cleansed by the blood Christ shed on the cross. God cannot allow sin of any kind into heaven. He is not being mean; He is being a fair judge. He gives each of us the choice and free will to choose Him or not because a relationship is only loving when we have a choice. If we were forced to love Him and follow Him it would not be loving, but a dictatorship.

That night in June 1994 I made the decision that I did not care what others thought, but I wanted to follow Jesus. I made the choice to confess with my mouth Jesus is Lord, believe in my heart God raised Him from the dead. I then proclaimed it to all I know by following through with a true baptism symbolizing death to my old life and being raised with Christ to a new life.

Today, you have a choice.

Do you believe you have sinned? (I know I have.) Do you believe Jesus came and then died for your sins, and after a horrific death on a cross, He overcame death by rising again on the third day?

Jesus is waiting for you.

It is not one exact prayer, but heartfelt confession and admission of your need for salvation as just stated in Romans 10.

Are you a sinner? Do you recognize your need for and want forgiveness? Do you believe Jesus died on the cross and rose again? Are you willing to surrender your life to Christ? If so, you can pray this prayer, or your own honest prayer to God confessing and believing as Romans 10 states, and begin a new life with Jesus.

Father God,

I know I am a sinner and have made mistakes. I recognize I am not able to save myself from eternal death. I believe you sent Jesus, and He walked this earth fully man and fully God, and then He died on the cross and shed His blood for my sins.

I believe You then raised Jesus from the dead so I can spend eternity with You. Thank you for saving me and for loving me enough to send Jesus to die for me.

In Jesus Name,
Amen

If you just prayed this prayer congratulations! You have a new life in Christ! I’d love to hear about your decision and I encourage you to reach out to a Bible believing church and share your decision and ask for someone to disciple you.
