The past year has been tougher for many, however, it you are on my page you probably already knew life was tough. It tends to fall apart whether we want it to or not.
I have been doing quite a bit of writing about the past 12 -14 years of my life. It helps me process what has gone on and also see what God has been doing. Especially since I wondered often where He was during my darkest moments.
The answer – right by my side guiding me step by step and providing the strength to get through. I just had to call on Him. Even when I didn’t, He intervened for me in amazing ways.
So, today as I felt depression settle heavier on my heart I wondered, why? Why do I feel so heavy God? What is wrong?
Grief is landing in me. I have a lot of grief to work through and feel. Losing my job, losing the chance to have my own family, losing friends, on top of dealing with what was lost to the traumas incurred.
As I felt this grief land today I googled a song that I have been listening to. I first heard it the summer I became a Christian in 1994. However, it has really resonated with me lately.
As I listened to it and looked up the lyrics, I read the story behind it. It was written by an Australian worship leader named Darlene Zschech during a time she had money issues and was struggling to raise her family.
She said, “I wrote it when I was feeling discouraged. I felt I could either scream and pull my hair out, or praise God. The line, ‘Nothing compares to the promise I have in you.’ Was something I clung to when our circumstances seemed so bleak.” (Taken from Today’s Christian Woman – via songfacts.com)
It really rings true today too. So much is falling apart in this world yet one thing will always remain the same. Jesus, and His promises. One such promise from the book of Mark; “Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.’”
The line, “Nothing compares to the promise I have in you.” Resonates not just for that promise, but all that Jesus promised, including spending eternity with Him in heaven if we accept Him.
I know recovery is hard. I KNOW well. I have been in the dark places where life seemed worth ending. However, God brought me through and has shown me light. I understand more hard times will come, but I cling to the fact God will see me through.
As you continue on your journey today may you find peace, comfort, and strength in the One who came to give His life for you. Hold onto Him and praise Him in the darkness, and as you do your heart will be lighter and the promises of God will ring true.
If you want to, maybe spend some time today worshiping our Savior.

I’ve linked the song here for you. Shout to the Lord
