God and Sexual Assault

Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

By God for His purpose.

Most everyone experiences rejection at some point in their life. For some though, it is more prominent and runs rampant in their minds. I will admit, there have been many days in my life I wondered why I was created. “Why would God make me? I must be a mistake.” Those thoughts led me down the path to trying to end the precious life God gave me.

As trauma survivors we feel the rejection from our trauma. Being used and discarded. Only good for someone else’s pleasure. They may have even told you that when the trauma was happening that you were no good. They are all lies. However, we feel them deeply.

If not at the time of trauma or from it, maybe you were told you were a mistake, or ugly, fat, you question your worth, or that you are extremely flawed and beyond help. I have felt these and other emotions throughout my life, and even still on some days. It has taken me years in therapy to crush through the damage to allow God to speak to my heart about the Truth.

Truth that is spoken about in His word.

As written in Psalm 139 – The Psalmist states how God sees each of us.

Psalm 139:14-16

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.”

14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.

16 Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” NIV

Now step back from these verses and imagine it is only you in these verses. You were created and knit together, fearfully and wonderfully made. You are wonderfully made. Knit together. Your days were ordained before you were ever even born and held.

I have tried knitting, and I know that it takes time, effort, and some planning. So, when I hear “knit together” I know it is not something God did lightly.

You are fearfully and wonderfully made by God.

I would love to make these verses come alive to you in your heart and mind, but honestly only God can do it. I encourage you to ask Him to show you how incredibly important you are to Him and what He has for you in this life.

Father God,

Open my eyes to Your love for me. Help me understand how You see me, and not how the world does. Some days I feel broken and beyond any “repair”. Help me see Your plan on these days, and show me that I am “fearfully and wonderfully made” by You alone and for Your purpose.

In Jesus Name,
