God and Sexual Assault

A Time to Heal

Trusting God's timing.

“There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,

a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,

a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.”

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

This was written by Solomon. He was known to seek wisdom from God. Everything has its time. God has a perfect plan. We may mess it up, and others may mess it up for our lives, but God can redeem it for us. We trust in Him to make all things new. That includes each of us who have endured sexual trauma.

I know I have asked for divine healing more than once, and immediate healing was not granted to me any of those times. God truly wants us to heal, but He may want us to learn more about Him through the process, as well as share with others what He is doing. As we journey toward that healing.

I used to be angry at God for making me go through this process, but now I am thankful for the time to draw closer to Him. I no longer worship my job or what I am doing each day. My worship is reserved for God alone. I honestly don’t know if I would have come to that point without this hard process.

As you journey toward healing I pray you continue to find God along the way. He will show Himself to you and He can redeem your life. What was done to us does not have to define us. Instead we can be defined by our identity as God’s children. Children He loves very much.

Take that in today and sit with it. Ask God to continue to guide you and your professionals as you seek the ultimate healing we all want from our trauma.
