God and Sexual Assault

Learning That God Loves You

God's unconditional love.

I could sit here and write and tell you over and over that God loves you. However, I can almost guarantee it won’t sink in. I have read books about God’s love. I know Bible verses describing it and can lead you to them in the Bible. Though each of these things played a small part in learning the truth, they are not what ultimately helped me understand.

What I found is that once I prayed for God to show me His love, I began to became aware of just how much He does love me. Though it has still taken me years to come to this understanding, it opened my eyes to how amazing it is to be loved by God, the Father.

He is a Father much different than the earthly father I knew. He loves me unconditionally no matter what I do, and His love is not conditional on if I please Him. He loves me simply because I am His child.

No matter how long or when you experienced sexual assault it can leave you feeling unloved, used, and like you need to do all kinds of things to earn love and acceptance from the world. Trying to please everyone, and do what you think they want so they won’t reject you.

So, though I’m here to tell you how I’ve come to realize God’s love for me, it most likely won’t change your thoughts or experience of His love right now. Only through your relationship with Him can it become reality for you.

I have found God’s love for me in all kinds of ways and places. Just in looking outside at all the beauty God created and the detail He put in amazes me, and then I realize He loves me so much more than the trees and flowers He created. I look at my adorable Persian kitty and think of all the different kind of animals and how they know how to eat, bathe, and each is still unique.

God cares more for us than any animal. After all, we have souls and animals don’t. So, if God takes such great care in their creation, think how much more He took in creating each of us. You are a one of a kind, special human being. Even identical twins have differences and uniqueness only God could create.

As I’ve said before even the fact that we aren’t flying around on earth, but walking and sitting because God created gravity shows the detail and care He took and shows His power as well.

God has shown me the care He took in creating me, and you, and all that He provides for us. Sun for light during the day, and rain for food, grass, and flowers to grow. Just yesterday I got a check from a freelance writing article I did, that I forgot I hadn’t been paid for. It came just as I needed it to pay a bill. He provides in all kinds of ways.

I know my experiences are not most likely what will convince you of God’s love. You must come to understand it in your own time and way. I do know He wants you to know you are loved, and not conditionally, but no matter what. His unconditional love is just that, not dependent on anything we do.

So, today, I hope and pray you begin to ask God to show you His great love. For only in learning about how much He loves us can we love others and show God to them. Take a step and ask God to show you today. I’ll help you get started…Learning that God loves you

Father God,

I want to know how much You love me. I have experienced such trauma in my life that I question love and acceptance, yet I need it. I want to know Your unconditional love. Show me each day Your love so I can begin to understand it. I want to live in that love and show others how great it is. Thank you for continuing to provide me the strength to get better. Continue to help me heal and may You receive the glory from it.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
