Faith

Just have a little faith. Faith will get you through. Faith is a journey. Any of these sounds familiar? They are things people often say to us about faith. However, the Bible says, “Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.” Hebrews 11:1 NLT

I personally really like this translation. I found it at the top of a notepad. It says New Living Translation. So, I’m going with this translation. It’s more specific and unlike those things people say to me it makes sense.

Faith is confidence. Confidence is the feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; firm trust. Doesn’t that sound solid to you? So when it says, “Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen,” it means we have a firm trust this is going to happen.

Assurance is a promise. So faith is also a promise of things we cannot see. When I began to relate this verse to our recovery it all began to fall together. What do we hope for with our recovery? That we will one day be emotionally free from the trauma right? Maybe even as my therapist has in his vision for his clients, “Emotional and spiritual freedom for you.”

Faith, confidence for what we hope will actually happen. Assurance, a promise in things we cannot see. Like healing. Restoration. Emotional and spiritual freedom. No longer bound by the trauma of sexual assault.

How hard is it to have faith? Many days so incredibly hard. Just today I spent 30 minutes processing one tiny piece of one specific event. One out so very many. We still didn’t even come close to finishing. I could get down and depressed about it or I can realize we made progress and will continue to do so on every little piece until we are done.

We can have faith that what we hope for will happen and that God is going to bring it about in our lives. Our healing. Maybe even look back through your recovery and notice where God has already brought about healing. Healing from what we have been through is not a one stop quick fix. It is a process.

A process though which we must continue to have faith that God is going to provide us the courage and strength to get through, the support we need, professionals to help us, and His never ending supply of power, love and grace.

I have faith God will heal each and every one of you. I have faith He will heal me. Each of us in His own way, in His own time. And I have no doubt as God’s doing it He’s going to continue drawing us closer to Him. Taking the evil from our trauma and using the healing process to bring us into a love relationship with Him.

Keep taking each day one minute, one step at a time, and always remember you are not alone.
