Hi friends!
I am hopping onto the blog to tell you that I will not be posting again until August 12th. While I could schedule them ahead, I am doing a digital fast with my church and I want to encourage you to do the same. So, in an effort to help you, I am not posting again until the 12th. We started our fast of mainly social media, and then apps, etc. that waste time, today, Sunday, July 13th and it goes for 25 days. I encourage you to join me and my church in refreshing our minds and using time we are typically on our phones to be with Jesus and get into the Word.
While I know reasonably we cannot get rid of online work (I work online everyday!) there are portions of it we can fast from and maybe even get rid of. We aren’t created to see all the devastation, see everyone’s “best moments” and all that we are inundated with these days.
Hop in this with me and let’s put into practice what I talked about last week with soul care. Refresh and fill up with Jesus – because He’s all that truly matters, and all that will truly last!
- What does a digital fast look like? Here are some options:
- Delete all social media apps from your phone.
- Delete any other app you waste time on – including news apps.
- Go into your settings and place a time limit on the apps you do leave on such as email etc. You can set it to log you out at 15 minutes etc. Doing this helps you realize how much time you are spending on your phone.
- You can also set up on your phone reminders of screen time, and track your screen time. Set a goal to not go over it. (If you’re type A like me keep a graph and try to lower it each day.)
- Notice how often you want to pick up your phone – and YOU will! Ask God to help you with this addiction (yes, it’s an addiction for all of us (me too) when we can’t put it down, and the apps are created to keep you addicted.)
- Place your phone somewhere else in the house (and stop wearing your Apple or other digital watches) so it is not a distraction, or turn it off. (I do this to concentrate on work and when I spend time with Jesus in the morning, because if I don’t, I pick it up just to “just look up that one verse or song” and 30 minutes later my time with Jesus was derailed.)
I’ll be back August 12th with more enouragement! If you need a guide or devotional to fill your time while digitally fasting, grab my devotional below and increase your gratitude over the next 25 days!
Blessings to you!
Susan
