The True Antidote to Loneliness and Fear

The ultimate shelter.

If you are reading this, you are a human and not a computer, or at least, if you’re a computer, this won’t land very well! Because you are human, I know you have experienced fear and loneliness. It has become rampant in our society today, unfortunately.

So many things are put out by our media of what we should be fearful of – we should be fearful of death and disease, and we fear rejection, fear of uncertainty, fear of the future, fear of being alone, fear of being misunderstood, and even fear of death or fear of the dying process. We may know where we’re going to be when we die, but the process of dying is not always going to be pleasant.

Don’t get me wrong. It is scary to think about it in the human sense. But when we step back and take it all in perspective eternally, then the fear dissolves.

Take for example, David, who in the Psalms lamented and praised God. In Psalm 27 David begins with;

“The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked came against me to eat up my flesh, my enemies and foes, they stumbled and fell. Though an army may encamp me against me, My heart shall not fear; though war may rise against me, In this, I will be confident.”

Can you imagine? Think about what David faced? When the wicked came against me to eat up my flesh? That makes me picture flesh eating bacteria! Yikes! When the wicked came against me, my enemies and foes, they stumbled and fell. Where did his faith come from? Who is he trusting in?

David has found his shelter in the Lord. He says, (Psalm 27:5-6) “For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion; and the secret place of his tabernacle, he shall hide me; he shall set me high upon a rock. And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies, all around me; therefore, I will offer sacrifices of joy in his tabernacle; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.”

Today it makes me consider where is my ultimate shelter? Where do I put my hope? Who do I ultimately seek? When I feel lonely, as every human will, and when I fear, which as a human will happen as well, where do I turn? Am I seeking shelter in food, another person, or in my bank account? Or am I seeking shelter in the house of the Lord? Am I fearing man or am I fearing the Lord? Who has the most power ultimately?

Today, let’s pray together, that no matter what we face, we will turn, and seek the Lord.

Father God,

I come before You today, and in times of trouble, I ask You hide me and protect me in Your secret place. I ask You lift my head above my enemies. Hear my cry, and have mercy upon me. Do not hide Your face from me, and do not turn me away in anger, but be my hope. Do not leave me or forsake me, but be the God of my salvation. No matter whether my family or other people forsake me, Lord, You will take care of me.

Help me trust in this and teach me Your way oh Lord, and lead me on Your path that no matter what rises is against me You will deliver me, and I will see Your goodness. Help me wait on You Lord and be of good courage. Strengthen me, and may I be found faithful. Be the true antidote to my fear and loneliness when they occur. Thank you for loving me and may I always abide in You.

In Jesus’ name

Amen
