God and Sexual Assault

The Power You Have Available

Relying on God.

Can you get better without the power of God? Maybe. You can try and this world would love to tell you, “Go girl! You are a strong woman, and you have the power.” That is not true.

We don’t have the amazing power needed without relying on God. It’s also a lie because each of us, whether we want to admit it or not, are made in the image and likeness of God. That means that even if you think you are doing it on your own, you’re not, because God is the one that created you to have the strengths and abilities you are using.

I was reading in Exodus this week and I came across when God had asked Moses to go and talk to the Israelites and tell them what His message was for them.

I laughed out loud as I read Moses reply to the Lord, because I have said the same thing over and over to God many times. Let me paraphrase it in my own words for you.

(Exodus 4) After the Lord asked Moses to go talk to the Israelites, Moses said, “Um, hey listen God, I know you made everything and all, but I fumble my speech and I don’t always know what to say.”

To which God replied, “Who gave you your mouth and makes people deaf of mute? Who gives people sight or makes them blind? Yep, Moses, that would be me. I’m God.”

Moses continued to say, “Um can you please just send someone else because I am not able to do what you’re asking?”

This resonates with me because many times I feel incapable of tasks before me, and I have told God the same thing before when He has asked me to do things. I think we all have at some point.

Moses did follow through after He realized that God wasn’t going to send anyone else.

As he continued his journey with the Israelites it leads us to Exodus 14 where they all come upon the Red Sea and don’t know what to do.

God tells Moses to, “Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground.”(Exodus 14:16)

Guess what happened? Moses obeyed and the Red Sea parted, and they went across on dry land. Can you imagine what that must have been like? To see the hand of God right there in front of you?

Well, we can see God’s hand too, we just tend to think He only does these amazing large miracles or that they happen in ways we don’t imagine.

I used to pray for healing from my trauma and I honestly was praying for a “zap – you are healed!” healing. Guess what? I am healing and I call that a miracle, but it didn’t happen as I expected or how I thought it should.

I’m glad it didn’t because God has used the process and continues to use the process to draw me closer to Him. I realize now that those of us who have a relationship with God also have the power of God in us and that is what helps us have the strength to face each day.

We just have to call on Him to draw that strength. If you have decided to follow God by believing Jesus died for your sins and rose again, then you have this amazing power that only comes from God.

The power that gave Moses the words to say. The power that parted the Red Sea, and the power that raised Jesus from the dead is still yours today if you call on God to have it.

You do not have to do this without help and power, and that power may come in the form of others – even professionals – that God uses to help you along the way. The point is the power is yours and I pray you call on God to help you have it as I can promise – It will make a difference in your healing.

Stay strong my friends and use the power of the One that created you.
