God and Sexual Assault

We Trust in the Name of the Lord Our God

To see us through...

Our world is a mess. Virus, riots, racism, threats, people doing evil. I am not surprised as some might be. We live in a fallen world whose ruler is Satan. So, what do you expect when Satan is involved? We more than others probably understand evil because of our trauma history. It helps me keep things in perspective.

At the beginning of the lock-down for the virus my pastor said we were entering what would probably be the hardest time of our lives. Nope, not even close. Enduring any sexual trauma is itself horrible and hard to deal with. The recovery from it hard on all sides as well. It’s difficult to even bring it up and talk about at first. Then, people don’t always believe you. It takes time and patience to find professionals willing to help us in the right way.

The last 12 years of my life. The memories returning, losing my dream job, losing family and friends, depression, anxiety, complex PTSD, coming to the end of myself and just wanting to end it all, that has been the hardest time. I know you can relate as you wouldn’t be reading this if you didn’t have a difficult history.

So, this time right now where we’ve had isolation, freaked out people afraid of dying from COVID, has been nothing compared to what we’ve been through. It’s in knowing that God has seen us through already that we can have confidence He will see us through what is to come.

As I remember that today I asked God where He would have me to read the Bible this morning. Psalm 18 is where I felt directed. As I continued on in the Psalms by David I came to Psalm 20 which I seem to relate well to. My guess is you will as well. As you read it today and in the days to come, remember that we trust in the One who has more power than we can ever imagine.

“May the Lord answer you when you are in distress;
may the name of the God of Jacob protect you.
May he send you help from the sanctuary
and grant you support from Zion.
May he remember all your sacrifices
and accept your burnt offerings.[b]
May he give you the desire of your heart

and make all your plans succeed.
May we shout for joy over your victory
and lift up our banners in the name of our God.

May the Lord grant all your requests.

Now this I know:
The Lord gives victory to his anointed.
He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary
with the victorious power of his right hand.
Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
They are brought to their knees and fall,
but we rise up and stand firm.
Lord, give victory to the king!
Answer us when we call!”

Psalm 20
