So, with all this extra time in isolation you very well may get a lot more writing from me. I hope you are doing well, and hanging in there! I’m praying for you!
I have read many recollections of people describing recovery from all kinds of various things. One things always stands out to me. They aren’t depending on God to get them through. How do they get better without the help of the One who created us? The only One who has the power to give us great strength?
I would not be here today if not for the strength of God. I should be dead. Not living at all. I tried to kill myself 4 times and came close to death a 5th because of a pulmonary embolism. It is only by the grace and mercy of God that I am here today living and breathing.
It got me thinking how will I be remembered? I do not want to be remembered for anything I have done in this life. I want my life to be remembered for serving and living for the One who created me. God. Nothing else matters in this life than living for Him.
As I was reading a book the other night a story that was told got my attention. I’m going to quote it for you as I can’t do it justice on my own. In the book a missionary is describing to a church about the King Uzziah.
“There once was a king named Uzziah. He was sixteen when he became king and Second Chronicles tells us he did right in the eyes of the Lord.
Don’t miss, folks, the way the Bible, when talking about the kings, always gives us a description of their relationship with God before it gives us a rundown of their successes or failures. Uzziah sought God…and as long as he sought God, God gave him success.
Chapter 26 lists his feats. He defeated armies that came against him, increased the wealth of Judah, built towers, and increased his army. Then…he got proud. He stopped praying. Stopped seeking the Lord. The Bible says he became ‘unfaithful’.
His pride in his own accomplishments took a hold of him. Thinking he’d earned God’s respect, God’s attention, he marches right into the holy place to offer sacrifices, with about eighty horrified priests on his tail.
And they said to him, ‘Leave the sanctuary, for you have been unfaithful; and you will not be honored by the Lord God.’ So this man, who’d accomplished so much for God, has forgotten the secret of his success. Seeking God.
That moment, right in front of the priests, God afflicted him with leprosy. From that day forward, he had to live separately from his family. He forfeited his kingdom to his son to rule, and when he died, the people said only one thing about this king who had been great. He had leprosy.”

Right now as we’re all going through isolation, quarantine, fighting the spread of the virus, or maybe even the virus itself…along with our usual battle of recovery…what will people remember about you – about me?
Are we living so when we meet God He will say, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” Or are we only going to be remembered like King Uzziah – he had leprosy?
I discovered the hard way this life is not meant to be lived without the power of Jesus. It is His strength I depend on to get me through each day. I hope you depend on Him as well, and if you haven’t been it’s not too late to start. He wants to be your refuge and strength – will you let Him today?
Father God,
Thank you for being the God of the Universe. I need your strength to make it through not just recovery but all the days ahead – especially right now when I’m more alone. Fill me with your strength and power today and may it be said when I die, that I was Your good and faithful servant.
In Jesus Name,
Amen
