Often times the road we are on is so difficult that we forget to remember we do have things to be thankful for in this life. Yes, it is a hard road we are on and the PTSD, anxiety and depression are quite real.
However, taking a few moments each day to remember what we do have to be thankful for can help us not only come closer to God, but lift ourselves out of the pit of despair.
I even took the time to write a book about remembering life’s blessings to remind myself of 50 things I have to be thankful for in life.
Here are some of the blessings I’m thankful for today:
Jesus
A bed to sleep in.
The ability to take care of myself and exercise.
Books to read and libraries to get books!
Clean water
Clothes and shoes to wear.
Computers
Deodorant
Electricity
Eye glasses
Food
Freedom to worship.
Heat – especially right now in winter!
Indoor plumbing and toilet paper
Knowledge and education
I could continue on, but I think you get where I’m heading with this. Sometimes we easily look over the simple blessings in life that God has provided to us.
There are many places people that do not have these things we often take for granted. They are luxuries we have in this life. No matter what the world tells us we “should” have, God provides what we need each day and that is enough.
I encourage you to take a moment today and make a list of all your blessings and thank God for what He has given you. Keep it handy to refer to on the hard days where you get really down and depressed about recovery.
