God and Sexual Assault

You Are Special

God cares for you!

Sometimes actions hurt more than words. Both hurt in the end. Whether you were told you were nothing or you feel like it because you were sexually assaulted it takes a toll on your mind, body, and spirit.

It gets in the way of our recovery too. The negative thoughts. The feelings of worthlessness. How ugly we feel with the shame we have reliving the events. All of it leads down dark, narrow, roads of destruction.

Not the same road God would lead us down. I don’t know about you but I take the dark, narrow road often. It’s the easier road. The road I’m used to. We get used to thinking we are nothing, ugly, pieces of whatever you were told. The worthlessness we feel because of being used for someone else’s pleasure.

That’s when we must turn to God’s truth to remember who we are. We cannot even rely on the world around us.

The TV, magazines, social media, books, will all tell us we should look, feel, and be a certain way. They fill our minds with pictures and words that tell us the same things we are already thinking after being sexually assaulted.

We’re not good enough. Pretty enough. Worth enough to be cherished, loved, or taken care of.

Those are all lies. Straight from Satan. We cannot believe them. Don’t believe them.

God says in His word:

“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” Matthew 10:29-31

God cares enough for the sparrows that He takes care of them, but then He says we are worth more than they are! He cares so much about us that He knows how many hairs are on our heads.

How can we be worthless if God wants to know the number of hairs on our heads? We’re not. That is what He is telling us. We are just so amazingly special to Him He cares enough to know every single detail! you are special

Then beyond that He has plans for us. Not just any plans. Plans of hope and prosperity.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

So as you keep traveling on this journey in recovery when you have those negative thoughts turn them over to God. Take in His truth and remember how special you are to Him. Cherish His words to you. Take Him up on His plans and keep going one step at a time.

Side Note: I chose this picture because the son seems so special to the father. It’s the way I picture God with us. Especially right now, cheering us on.
